Call it a fifty-watt wire. Every stage ahead of the power section measures dead clean…right up to where a great tube amp is finally allowed to have an opinion.
Most tube amps start coloring the signal the moment you turn them up. This one holds off on purpose. Every stage ahead of the power section…first gain stage, phase-inverter grids, cathode follower…measures as a clean, symmetric sine with the front-panel Gain maxed out. +31.5 dB of gain, engineered to the decimal, not stumbled into. It takes roughly 300 mV at the input to make this amp finally break a sweat…several times what a guitar alone can throw at it…so a modeler or a drive pedal running into the front end won't crack it by accident. A fifty-watt wire, until you tell it not to be.
Push it past that ceiling and the power section finally gets a say — both halves of the wave clip together, symmetric to under two percent, the sound of honest 5F6-A iron running out of room instead of a starved preamp giving up early. The tone stack got the same attention: retuned deep enough to run genuinely flat in front of a pedal, or scoop hard and vintage running the show alone. Even the capacitors were chosen on purpose…polypropylene where the circuit needs speed, polyester exactly where it should sing.
